I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
Yep me too
Which Sony TV model you have ?
49" 83C delivered on the 2nd December 2015...
As a qualified Broadcast technician I have to say this is one of the most frustratingly badly-designed and executed televisual products I've ever had to deal with... Unpacked the set, temporarily connected to download the latest firmware.
I'm quite prepared to live without all the 'smart tv' stuff... Have zero interest in Netflix or any of the other gubbins; bought the TV on that basis. Even just trying to use it as a TV is frustrating!
Satellite Tuner(s):
i) Don't expect to be able to use DiSEqC - Although it's supposed to be supported it just plain doesn't work! I had a frustrating time yesterday trying to tune in my dual-dish system... Same feed to my old receiver works perfectly.
ii) For the curious who might connect a 'Fransat' dish in the hope of seeing an alternative UHD demo; the set doesn't decode it! - You'll get sound but a blank screen! - Doesn't bode well for future 4K transmissions! - the Astra 4K demo is fine, looks good etc...
iii) Whatever idiot designed the channel listing interface needs sacked never to work again; such is the level of gross incompetence!
A) Whilst you're trying to delete all the porn, shopping and other rubbish from your channel list the set will inexplicably and randomly crash, reset, or return channels to the list that you have deleted.
B) During this seemingly random process it's possibly to wind up with channels you THOUGHT you had deleted occupying channel positions on your guide that are numbered over 10,000 - i.e. position 10149... You cannot access any position over 9999 from the listing interface! - Thus the only way of removng something you might find really offensive from your guide is to start the retuning and sorting process from scratch!
C) Attempting to move an item up the channel list will - quite randomly - result in the channel you are trying to insert in a given position 'swapping places' rather than being inserted in the new position; thus you still wind up with a channel in the wrong place.
iv) Secondary dish input appears to do nothing - attempting to invoke it will crash the set!
Given that the Android features don't actually WORK it would be nice to remove the icons for this stuff - a lot of which I REALLY wouldn't want to use anyway - from my 'home' screen! I don't need the telly to tell me what it thinks I ought to be watching either!
Having DELIBERATELY disconnected it from the internet I don't need a wee sad looking cloud icon telling me that either!
LONG time user of Sony products including their professional machines from the days of U-Matic riight up 'till now! Really disappointed in them that they'd even build a prototype this badly-thought-out... These UIs are just not even remotely competent!
And OH! - did I mention there is no output from ARC? I just used an optical connection but REALLY???? And then there are the tales earlier in this thread of them censoring (deserved) negative reviews! I'd expect this sort of rubbish from a no-name supermarket telly! Not one of the best known names in the business!
And I'll remember all this the next time I'm speccing-up our replacement broadcast kit...

Interestingly DiSEqC worked for well for me (one of the few things the TV that did). I've got a single dish with two LNB's one for 28.2, one for 19.2 and a two port DiSEqC switch. Once channel setup for each had been completed I had no problems seemlesly swapping between the two. I only use 19.2 for RTL F1 coverage so I didn't use it that often but it worked each time I moved to/from 28.2.
The satellite EPG was mostley useless though. It seemed to be empty most of the time for some reason.
To enable a second feed we have to select manual tunning. After selecting the sat 2 we have to enable auto again so to scan all the frequencies. Stange!

I'm using two dishes - one at 5W Atlantic Bird 3 - Which is basically the Fransat service. And the normal Astra dish... Pretty experienced with FTA receivers; part of my work is as a news cameraman, so I've an occasional need to be able to access any local bulletin... Being in Scotland it's also useful to be able to access the 'main' BBC feeds etc... The 'French' dish is just for a few extra programmes...
The set definitely won't switch! - Whether this is another flaw introduced by the current update or what I don't know. But it's unacceptable - FTA EPGs are always a bit rubbish; usually just 'now and next'; this seems to work OK-ish; but, given the way I hope to use this, I REALLY want rid of those channels that show dodgy scrubbers ( both the kind you wash the floor with and the other type) and all the religious stuff; all of which to be honest I find pretty offensive and don't want in my home!
THIRD crash today trying to edit the channel list... Girding up for another go!

Yup! - Noticed that too.... But when mine 'tunes' it just doesn't switch ports; so simply scans the same dish twice!
Im just starting to wonder when the TV will just stop working, get corrupted and not start again.
It seems like the customer is the test platform for this TV.
I like the picture but the UI is terrible.
Heres waiting for the 24 Dec for the cures... not holding my breath but if it screws my TV up for Xmas I shall be going to Currys on the 26 and asking for a refund or a different TV at the price I paid for it for all the trouble this set has caused me.
I bet the update will be moved to after Xmas just in case some moron puts a comma into the code and shuts it off for good.
As I said in my review, that was not put up on the site as it was true and they only want good reviews, Sony you should be ashamed of yourselves for allowing a TV that is not ready and I still think will never be ready, onto the market, I only wished I had seen this forum before buying, big mistake!
Thats interesting, they have removed my post on here on the review I did that was not put on their main site but I put on here instead so it could be seen, now that post is gone too and I put it up twice, Sony what are you hiding from the public?
Sony are you really going to risk being outed in Video magazines if you continue to delete posts etc... about your products that you dont like, even if true, if you dont then I respectfully (Thats something you need to learn about customer, repsect) suggest you become more open and explain what the real problems are with these TV's and why you cant fix them properly?
I am quite prepared to contact all the relevant magazines on this if you continue to act like you are, I am sure you do not want to become a brand that is classed as a cheap one due to your poor customer service and extremely poor products or do you?
I suggest you just aplogise properly, take back the incomplete products and sort them out.
Your choice Sony.
