I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
Please stop with all the nVidia shield crap. The TV hardware is MORE than capable of running and performing the tasks it is designed for. The issue is that Sony engineers are totally incompetent and haven't a clue. What needs to be done is for Sony to allow us to root the device and open up to community. Also they need to stop breaking core functionality, breaking promises on fixes and essentially taking us all for mugs.
I am utterly disgusted with Sony right now. My house is full of Sony products.....
STOP taking us for mugs
STOP treating us like cattle
STOP lying
STOP breaking release dates
STOP releasing half assed features and breaking core functionality with ***** updates!!!!!!!
Just to add I am aso experiencing all the issues reported on this community page including lag, random system restarts, very slow Youview response, Netflix audio sync and many more...
Sony tech support advised a factory reset would solve all, which I sceptically performed but of course to no effect.
I hope a software update that solves all these faults is issued soon, I really can't be bothered to take the TV back to Currys, I just want it to work!
You and me both... never had a TV that has issues like this... should have stuck to Samsung as thats been a good TV to me, just wanted to update... feel rather dissapointed now.
mines fine. why you struggle so much?
ouch! got a samsung for the dining room, takes 4 mins to strart up an app from strandby. wont buy another.

Capable of UHD HEVC/VP9 @decoding @ 60fps, yes.
Capable of running demanding apps that Android TV gives access to, at acceptable levels - doesn't appear so.
and what exactly do you think opening up this TV to the community will do? It wouldn't achieve anything.
You could in theory take Nexus Player AOSP repository, get binary files for the hardware which may or may not be possible depending on how open each OEM is to releasing such files and kernel source that Sony have to release under GPL. You might even get all of that to boot up; but everything else on the TV is proprietary. Look at how many Sony specific apps are running on the TV and that's just Sony - YouView and other catch up services are not available on Google Play.
Hi. I've been monitoring this forum with interest while communicating with Curry's about my X83C. It's now got to the point where I'm going to take them to court because they have failed to accept my return under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. I know for a fact that I have a legitimate claim because the product was not as described and is not fit for purpose. I really hope someone here has evidence that the product description and specification has changed. I know it has but don't have a record of the previous versions of the Curry's or Sony websites. Can somebody please link to screengrabs or old documentation showing the previous website/adverts etc I'm specifically interested in hard drive recording, picture in picture, and all the on demand services (before it was made clear you had to disable satellite and enable freeview). Thank you.
angrycustomer - There have been links in the topic here for previous web page versions for exactly the purposes you've specified, but they'll be pages back as they were posted a while ago.
Perhaps the original posters of the links are still active on here and can repost for you.
EDIT - Beaten to it....
Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately the web archive didn't have the page I was looking for. I'll flick back through this forum later when I get some time. However, if someone has the links to hand and can post them before I start my trawl, I'll be extremely grateful. Cheers.
