hi all! I'm not a member of the page but I figured this would be the best place to come to.
my boyfriend recently wanted to get into photography as a hobby (he desperately needed one), and ended up buying the alpha a6000 body only. when he powered it up it gave him the cannot read lens error. Does the camera require a separate lens to function or is it able to work body only? if so, does anyone have lens recommendations for a beginner?
thanks a ton in advance!
Hello @rashimkavel7,
to answer your question - yes, the camera REQUIRES a lens to be able to produce any picture.
Please - put the protective cap back onto the body otherwise the sensor can get dirty or even worse you could damage the camera permanently.
If you/your boyfriend wants to save a little bit of money, you can go for third party lenses from brands like e.g. Tamron.
Just make sure the lens you choose has a so called "e-mount" which refers to the size and shape of the bayonet around where you fit the lens to.
Good lenses for beginners are the so called "kit-lenses" which are usually sold with the camera body UNLESS one already had lenses - then you just buy the body, like you did by mistake.
The kit lens which comes with the camera is the 16-50 mm called SELP1650.
