The 16mm lens is small and light and is ideal for everyday use - particularly indoor/party situations, However, it is a fixed wideangle lens - not a zoom - and does not have 'anti-shake' optical stabilisation included.
The 18 - 55mm lens is a standard zoom lens and includes Optical SteadyShot. Although it is compact in size, it is larger than the 16mm. his is a general usage all-round lens.
If you are only going to buy one lens, then the 18 - 55mm is the one to choose for an 'all-rounder'.
