I recently upgraded from an A68 to an A7ii body. As I had an A Fit Sigma 18-300 and a Sigma 50-500 I purchased an LA-EA4 adaptor so I could convert to E Fit and carry on using them. At the time it worked fine, auto focussed, shot, everything.
I then decided to purchase a Sony FE 50mm Prime. But since fitting that to the A7 ii it won’t work when I put the LA-EA4 with either Sigma lenses on. It will try to focus, focus briefly and then fix out of focus and won’t take a shot. If I switch the lens to Manual Focus it will shoot though. I can only assume that there is some setting that’s changed. Both lenses still work Auto focusing on the A68.
At a real lose here any help would be greatly appreciated so thanks in advance and for looking.
Hi there,

Hi northamsaint
Welcome to our community.
The issue you're facing is strange as nothing should cause the adaptor to change the way it works, so my attention goes to the camera here.
I'd recommend updating the firmware first: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/e-mount-body-ilce-7-series/ilce-7m2
But if the issue remains, a factory reset would be the next best action to take.
Let us know how it goes.

Is indeed very strange. Just checked and I do have the up to date firmware. Also did a reset and still the same. I’m thinking though what I will do is buy a FE 24-240 instead. I passed on my old A68 to my daughter (13) who is interested in photography. So I’ll just pass the 18-300 on to her and I’ll sell the 50-500mm on to help fund the new lens.
Thank you for your kind reply.
The LA-EA4 adapter has its own focusing system so I think the issue is with the adapter. Maybe some dust covering the AF sensor inside LA-EA4, or the electrical contacts need cleaning?
If attempting to clean inside the LA-EA4 with a rocket blower go EXTREMELY carefully as the translucent mirror is fragile and easily damaged.
