A68 Vertical Grip

Hi, I am pleased with my A 68, apart from the battery life, and need a vertcal grip. I am only getting 200 to 300 shots per battery, not the 480 shown in the spec. I have turned off the usual suspects to try and increase battery life.  One is not listed on the Sony site, but on looking closely at the camera base, I find that the one from my A77 fits on a dry run. Before  I put batteries in and switch it on, is there any chance of damage, and will the control buttons work? Not particularly worried about the controls, merely extending battery life.

John

Hi @salopian and welcome to the Community

Yes unfortunately specs can differ from actual, mainly because

battery life is measured with very specific test conditions (***** standard).

With customer use even temperature and focus etc can affect the battery.

I haven't used those models / grip but the cameras do share

the same battery so there should be no problems with compatibility.

Hope this helps.

Gonna try other solutions first, mainly because I don`t like a VG on the camera, but will keep it in mind for times when it will be necessary. Reading Sony spec, it says 580 using monitor, and 540 using viewfinder, so not much of a difference. t

hanks for your help

Not so in my case.  I recently purchased the A68 to replace my A700 which has a VG.  When I tried to add it to the A68 the fixing locking the VG to the camera would not match up - off set by just a few mm's making it unuseable.

Sony do not seem to have a VG for the A68 which is a pity.

Bit the bullet and using without A77 grip, just making sure I have all my batteries - 6 of them ( this is my 4th Sony) fully charged

Hiya i know it's an old thread but did you have any success with the A77 grip on your A68?  ?

So long ago I'd forgotten about it until now!

No, I gave up on it. I eventually got a Sony 6000 which is my main camera now and as you'll probably know it is a much smaller camera and easier to carry around.

I still have the S68 and various lenses so I keep that as a back up or for special occasions such as a wedding for a friend just recently - I like the choice of lenses for those events (not professional but as a favour for friends).

Hope that helps

Enjoy your photography.

It was a long time ago .. As far as I can remember the A68 worked but only on the first battery, it did not change to the second, had to swap them physically! Also the buttons on the grip did not work, so basically it just added weight and carried a spare battery, so I gave up on the idea, and carried spare batteries in the bag.
