Hi,
I have my new phone, Sony Xperia 10, the problem i have is that during a call that i make, the phone cuts out after 30 minutes. This has happened 3 or 4 times now. Can anyone help me solve what to do to stop this happening. I've read on other forums about deleting apps, but what ones do i delete.
Thanks in advance
I don't know how to do that without starting a new contract. Vodafone UK says it has nothing to do with them. Can you give more details about what you heard?
I could take the phone to a Vodafone shop, but I am most interested in what Sony itself has to say about the issue.
...But yes, I did get a SIM-only contract with Vodafone, and bought the phone retail.
It's a Vodafone problem when you have 4g calling with certain phones including some Sony, Pixel and others and Vodafone have known about it for at least 2 years and either can't or can't be bothered to fix it. It is not an 3rd party App problem.
A quick workaround is to switch the phone to 3g before making a long call or using it in safe mode which disables 4g calling.
Here is a link to the Vodafone Android forum. https://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Android/Pixel-3xl-drops-calls-after-half-hour/td-p/2657129
The best thing you can do is to keep badgering them. They will tell you to contact then via a private message on social media to keep things out of the public domain and have you jumping through hoops doing things to your phone that they know will not fix the problem. Good luck.
Hey there,
When you say it drops, like the call disconnects? Or, there's no sound but the call still on going?
Or, does the phone itself power OFF? That would help us understand more about what's happening.
Cheers
The call only just disconnects as if you have pressed the End Call button after exactly 29 Minutes 50 Seconds, every time, only when 4g calling as per my post above, even if you are mid sentence and as far as I know only for outgoing calls all as per the long thread I linked above which was for a Pixel phone but applies to some Sony phones as well on Vodafone UK. I believe it does not happen with other carriers.
I think the Sony phones that have the problem are some of the older ones, including the XZ series with the Google Dialler, which I believe the UK ones had.
Hi @Tizer1
Did you try to communicate this matter with Sony and check how they can go with this issue?
But it seems a network operator related issue in this one?
Hi @EMS_MO72
I personally haven't communicated directly with Sony. I'm a bit late to the party, normally I would not talk for more than 30 minutes but since Covid everything important including medical things is done over the phone, sometimes for long periods, and it was only recently that I realised that I had the problem.
Reading that very long post from the Pixel owner it is a Vodafone, or Vodafone UK problem with certain phones of similar age when making a call over their 4g network. Other people have changed providers and the problem has gone away and that is what I might have to do, which is unfortunate because I get an excellent signal with Vodafone where I live and even when I'm in out in the countryside.
The phone was also bought from Vodafone so I may not be able to get 4g calling with another provider without changing the firmware.
"They will tell you to contact then via a private message on social media to keep things out of the public domain and have you jumping through hoops doing things to your phone that they know will not fix the problem. "
I had exactly the same experience with EE. They got the terminology wrong too, continuously referring to the 'phone password' when what they really meant was the keyboard unlock password. I nearly ended up bricking it because of their 'help' but tried one more thing just in time.
General comment: I used to be a great fan of Sony phones until they stopped support for mine after only a year of ownership. And now I'm looking at all these complaints about phones and TV sets, my opinion has dropped even lower.
One way to get me back as a customer would be to introduce a 21st Century version of the K750i with NO ANDROID in it. And no microsoft either. But with the same superb camera and Code Memo software.
Hey @Tizer1, I'd actually recommend checking directly with Vodafone as it is totally related to the SIM card. If there is any possibility of testing different SIM card on your phone or the same SIM with different phone, do it to confirm what causing the issue.
Hi @Piscie , not only have Vodafone sent me a brand new Sim card but they have also completely reset my account from scratch and it has not made any difference.
Putting either Sim card in another phone solves the problem, that is because the other phone makes the call in 3g. If I switch 4g off on my phone then I can talk for as long as I want, which is the same putting the Sim into another phone that makes the call in 3g.
Putting the phone into Safe Mode also solves the problem, that is because the call is done on 3g not because it is rogue App.
