xz2 high temperature

Hi, I have been using the phone for the past 2 days and realised that it heats up pretty quickly. It was particularly hot at the top part of the back of the phone, the area where the NFC logo is located. I did several "tests" to see how fast it heats up, and I made sure that the phone was cooled down before each try.

Firstly, I used the phone for browsing the internet for about 15mins and realised that the temperature(battery) has risen to 43 degrees celsius. Next, I tried using its camera and took several shots and after about 5 minutes of use, the temperature has also risen to 44.2 degrees and the a message was prompted stating something like "the temperature is too high! camera needs to turn off." I then tested the video recording in 4K resolution. The recording lasted for only about 3mins 40secs before the message was prompted, and the recording was not saved. The temperature rose to 44.5 degree celsius.

I understand that the automatic shut off of the camera was to prevent any hardware damage from the high temperature. However 15 mins of browsing and less than 5 minutes of 4k recording does not appear satisfactory from a user's point of view, especially after the device being touted as the best Sony has built. I hope that a software update can help mitigate this issue, as it will be a huge hindrance to the day to day usage if the issue remains. Does anyone else have the same issue?

Max out the A/C in your room Grinning_Face
I wish there's a case we can buy with built-in cooling features...

Xperia Z2 is using heat pipes to dispense heat and when the heart of the phone is stressed, it's common for the phone to feel hot especially around NFC area. Here is a link on the striped down internal of the phone for easy understanding:

Hi Englandflick.
My phone took.several photos without problems and 2min. 40 sec of 4k video. So you should get yours repaired if it shuts the camera.down so fast. My problem with 4k was the issue with audio being out of sync with the video.

Cartbagenaphoto, thanks for the tip, however I only got to reach up to 52 seconds of 4k video recording. I don't know if I should return it.

How do you check the temperature of your phone? I know the diagnostics app used to have it till that gpt removed in an update

*#*#7378423#*#*-service tests-battery,you can test if the battery is ok.

For the temperature, get an app from google play like hardware info.

I reached 3:54 minutes and maybe more if I didn't stopped the recording in 4k with ambient temperature of 22 degrees Celsius. I guess the Camera really pushes the sensor to the limit.

Hi,

I bought the Z2 on monday 19th May, the device heats up so fast on normal use, say when we use the camera for more than 10 - 15 mins(NOT 4K, normal mode) it pops up an error message that the camera needs to cool down and abruptly closes the Cam.

The temparature of the phone increases further when we play game for more than 15 mins. Even while the phone is being charged the temparature of the CPU is nearly 50 deg Cel( checked in the CPU temp APP) .

Is this an common behaviour, If so whether the Processor is at fault. Please clarify .

Thanks

Anbu

When phone is not around an Air conditioning environment it gets heated and then the camera application misbehaves. the camera appliaction keeps closing in every 3-4 seconds and gives message " camera will now turn off temporarily to cool down". very annoying... how to fix this?
