Xperia Z2 wont turn on - error message: Software update failed

Hi I'd be grateful for some help! My 4 month old Xperia Z2 has always worked fine until today. It was connected to my Mac computer, and I was asked to update Sony bridge for MAC. After about 10 mins it said Update Failed on the computer. I disconnected the phone, but now the phone wont turn on - all I get is an error message saying "Software update failed, make sure that your phone is connected to the computer and try again"

However when I connect it, the device isnt recognised.

I cant switch the phone off or on, all thats happening is a continuous loop of red light and then the error message (it's on charge at the moment)

Can anyone help?

Will do - quick question, should I force a restart by pressing the reset button next to the micro SD slot?

That is forced shutdown and yes,do that.
