Xz demo android upgrade

Hi all, I won the above phone in a Sony competition late last year which was great, I sold my Z5 compact and never looked back until I realised that it doesn't seem to want to upgrade to a newer version of android, the phone is currently on build no. 39.0.A.1.213, on android 6.0.1 and the phones model number is F8331, any help would be appreciated! @RobQwhat is your customization number? you can check it in Support > Tools > Diagnostics > Facts tab > Cutomisation.

@RobQlooks like you're running a demo software too, that hasn't received any further updates. you could probably look for instructions on how to flash another, more recent software using a third party tool like Flashtool, although I'm not sure how would that go with a demo unit.

So basically I have to root my phone and install a version of android recommended for XZ is this correct? If so I will have a look into this.

@RobQno, flashing another variant of software signed by Sony doesn't require rooting your phone.

OK I think I am getting there now, so basicaly using this:https://developer.sonymobile.com/open-devices/flash-tool/ i should be able to flash a version of android which will allow me to update my version of android. I have had a quick look and the model number of my phone is present so I guess this will work. I will post back this evening after giving it a go incase anyone else has the same issue.

@RobQno, I was talking about another tool called Flashtool, available on XDA forums. I'm not sure about the one you linked, but it would probably require unlocking your bootloader. if you check your device's section in XDA, you should be able to find relevant tutorials.
