Intelligent backlight

Hello, 

I noticed that intelligent backlight is not working. Description says that no matter you have the screen set to go sleep after 1 minute, if you keep the device in hand and still looking at it/ reading news on Internet etc. the screen should not go to sleep until you lay it down, stop using it. 

Unfortunately this is not working, hence not that intelligent...

Settings  > Display > Smart Backlight

Smart backlight control automatically detects if you are holding your Xperia in your hand. The screen stays lit when you are looking at a photo without touching the screen, for example. When you are not holding the device, like when you leave it on a desk, the screen turns off according to your sleep settings.

exactly, I am holding the phone in my hand, looking at it and still it turns off after selected time, like 1 minute... hence it does not work 😕

@azzido it could be an issue with your accelerometer. You may want to calibrate it.

There are several way to do so: You could do the calibration dance using Google Maps (https://support.google.com/maps/answer/6145351?hl=en - Yeah, it say "Compass" but it's related to the accelerometer) or you could use one of the many free apps in the App Store.

See, there are only two sensors that can affect that feature: 1 is the accelerometer/compass (they are related) and the other one is the gyroscope however I don't think that it's the sensor used here.

Before calibrating, try to open the dialer and dial the *#*#SERVICE#*#* (*#*#7378423#*#*) - Tap "Service Tests" and try the Accelerometer. The axis that detect the vertical position is the Z. 

Z = 9/10 - Laying Flat

Z = 0 - Vertical

If that's not what you see, try to re-calibrate and retry. IF after calibration the issue persist, try to restart your phone in safe mode and check if the feature works properly, if in safe mode works.. then the issue is related probably by a misconfiguration that is crashing the service. In extreme cases you could perform a software repair using PC Companion.
