Usb connectivity and MSC menu missing

I what to use my xperia z2 as usb storage. On my 17.1.2.A.0.314 in the Settings ->Xperia Connectivity -> Usb Connectivity -> There is no menu 'USB connection mode'
!!!

I have read the following article
http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/support/faq/xperia-z2/troubleshooting/the-phone-isnt-detected-by-the-co...

but do not find any menu or menu entry such as
"Mass storage mode (MSC)"

I use the original cable without a hub in-between. The PC, TV,... is not recognizing the phone.

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

Which options do you find when you go to Settings > Xperia Connectivity > USB Connectivity? Could you provide us with a screenshot?

You can also take a look at the following FAQ topic to see if you can find any tip:

That looks strange, never seen that before. Could you try to clear data for "Settings"? Go to Settings > Apps > The tab "All" > Settings > Clear data.

"Reset app preferences" didn't change a thing.
I did also restart the phone without any help.

The sdcard can be accessed with various file browsers without any problem.

In this case I would suggest that you try to perform a software repair on your phone via PC Companion:
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/pc-companion/

In PC Companion you press start on Support Zone > Start on Update the phone/tablet software > Repair phone/tablet (the blue clickable link in the message) > Follow these steps without having your device connected to the PC.

Follow the instruction that appears in the program and do not connect your device until this guide tells you how to connect it.

That's really frustrating

On the one hand this is annoying because the phone brand new and I do not have the time to fix such problems.
On the other hand am I a Linux (Ubuntu) user making a windows program install a bit complicated.
Linux support would be beneficial for a 'linux' phone.

Is the problem possibly related to an encrypted sdcard/phone?

I did the phone repair (its a reset not a repair =)) and had the menu back.

After encrypting the phone again the menu disappeared as before!!!!!

I guess this is a bug. I have nothing found that the usb connectivety is disabled by encrypting the phone.

What do you suggest?

Hello there. Was any solution found for this?

I have an Xperia M2 which I had to encrypt and I have a very similar problem.

The mobile is not recognised by any PC and there's no USB settings options in the menu,

I'd appreciate if somebody could help.

I had several phones (also encrypted) of other brands before this one and never had this kind og issue.
