UI changes in 4.2

Hi,

I recently updated the software on my Xperia z tablet and some terrible things have happened. Please put them right.

First the back, home and previous buttons are now centre justified, and I can't find the TV remote and choose

frame (screen).

The information tool bar is now at the top and instead of just in the button left hand side of the screen.

This give two information bar at the top and one at the bottom. It only needs one at the bottom and  the

Google tool bar at the top.

And finally, the previous screen button has changed the orientation of the previous screens to horizontal and added

a totally useless tool bar. Please remove the tool bar and put the screens vertically, In this case in particular the

old version was much better than the new.

Other than that the machine is great, works a treat, Thanks.

Totally agree. This update was a downgrade in user experience. I wish I hadn't done it.

As i understand it, the "tablet ui" has been removed from Android 4.2 so the layout is now more similar to that of a phone. I can forward your feedback but as this is how Android 4.2 looks like i don't think there will be any change.

If you don't see the remote when tapping the button for recent apps, press the arrow at the left and drag the remote to the bottom bar.

Hi, I noticed that my tablet UI is changed after it return from service. For example, small icons at top left is no longer there. Suspecting it is due to firmware update, I searched online sample of UI after 4.3 update, but it is different from mine.

1. The google search is now at the middle of screen instead of located at the top.
2. Status notification icons of my tablet is at top left (similar to my xperia phone). Picture I found has it located at bottom.
3. My home button is center justified.

Maybe the sample ui picture I found is not the latest update...can anyone share me the link to latest tablet z UI screenshot? Btw, I really liked the small icons on top left 😞

I love the original tablet Z UI. It was optimized for tablet use. I can use the left thumb to control back, home and previous apps and my right thumb to check notification and quick access to settings. Also the top left corner of the pinned app are very easy to access. Everything was well designed and considerate until update to 4.2... The sweet bottom UI layout got changed to stock android layout. The notification access got removed and 3 bottons moved to the center. What are those people who made the update thinking about? The tablet Z was designed to be used in landscape, how can I easily access those bottons in the center of a 10 inch screen? Now I need to move my left hand all the time to press home button and move my right hand all the time to access the notification! After the new update to 4.3, they even removed the pinned apps on the left top corner... Now I have to put mostly used apps on the home screen and press home bottton even more frequently!

Sony updates the software faster than most of the other manufatures which is very good and I love Sony's design and build quality. The reason I chose table Z over some company's products which still stubbornly use physical bottons was because of the considerate UI layout after I tried it in a Sony showroom. But why people in Sony keep changing the already perfect UI design all the time to make it worse? I don't really get any point of making such kind of change! I can't find any advantage of the current UI over the original one. Can anybody tell me about it? If you also love the original UI and want it back, let's make our vioce heard by replying this post and ask Sony to change the UI maybe for the next update.

Thanks,

Usability gone, value lost. Downgrade necessary... Why do you invest on working on a new OS release and UI to make it worse? This makes no sense.

The point is that big companies have  learned from Apple,  that it is easier to control everything on the products  they sell.

And Google wants the same  control with  their products.

I want to buy a chromecast,  but Google forces everything to go through there servers,  so i can't.

I'm forced to abandon  my 64gb sd card.

And i have to accept  that the layout of Android becomes worse after any new update.

So in time there will  be no difference between a Sony and a iPad

Same price and user 'friendly'  interface.

Your not allowed anything on it without permission of the seller.

We can only stop this if we stop buying this crap!

There's nothing wrong with the new UI, yes it may not be as good as the Tablet UI but it certainly wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

I have no complaints after using it for a few months.
