[Sony Doesn't care this at all] WiFi Status locked, cannot change or turn off

It looks like this is a general problem after ICS upgrade for Sony Xperia phone.

I didn't have this problem before even in worse firmware 6.1.1.B.1.10, but after using 6.1.1.B.1.54 two weeks, I have the problem now...

I can connect to AP after boot.

After use for a little time, the process "wpa_supplicant" start running, and never stop, just like the screenshot below (right-top corner).

Screenshot_2012-12-15-23-49-44.png

When the process "wpa_supplicant" is running, I can neither turn off the WiFi, nor make any setting change about WiFi.

What I can do is reboot.

It looks that the WiFi status was been locked by this process.

According the information on the web (reference), this issue can be fixed after delete the file /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant_bagscan.db. (rooted required)

But this file will automatic generated by wpa_supplicant, so the same problem may happens again.

Is there any way to fix this issue without rooted?

Absolutely disgusting. I will never be buying another Sony product again.

I'm certainly not knowledgeable concerning phones and their software but as far as I can gather from this tread the problem I'm having with my Xperia U is not unique and there is clearly a problem with the Xperia U and Android 4.0.

Unfortunately and disgracefully Sony closes off all the complaints with 'We have decided not to make any updates available anymore for the Xperia U'.

My only reaction to this is: Thank you very much, we will not make any purchases from Sony anymore...

I have been a big Sony fan, but the next phone will not be a Sony.

So, Sony have washed their hands of the Xperia U. Nice. So i now have to put up with a useless phone for another year. Oooo must dash out and order my next phone. What will it be? iPhone5? HTC? Samsung? One thing is certain it will NOT be a Sony! Shame, the U is a nice phone too.

"Although we understand the trouble some users have with this issue the company has taken the decision to not release any more softwares for the Xperia U."

The store I bought my Xperia U has a one year warranty, and right now, I'm seeing if this problem is covered. Does Sony cover this problem with their warranty?

Rooting then deleting & changing permissions of wpa_supplicant_bgscan.db to read only worked for me.  Thanks to the original solution provider.  This is likely my last Sony product.  ST27a Xperia Go (Advance)

Dear all,

I've had the exact same problem as all of you with my XU and for my deepest frustration, when all seemed to be going fine (after having repaired the phone twice), the wifi is giving me problems AGAIN!!! Having witnessed Sony's negligent and deceitful behaviour, completly ignoring the millions of customers that CHOSE Xperia products, and leaving them with the problem in their hands is just disappointing...unbelievable...a crime even (perhaps something that needs looking into)

So, I've come up with the PERFECT solution for this surreal problem: I'm stucking this useless piece of bad technology into my sock drawer and buying me a new smartphone (ANYTHING BUT SONY). Hey Sony, you don't care about me? Guess what: I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU EITHER!

This fix (setting read-only permissions to the dbscan file) is fantastic.  I had been doing the previous fix (connectbot, su, ps wpa, kill <process>, etc) but this has been permanent.  THANK YOU!!!!
