Not charging past 1% when using micro USB

In short:
My phone cannot be charged by the micro USB port when working, only the magnetic charger does the trick. If plain dead - it could be charged through the micro USB, but once it reaches 1% charge - the phone sort of boots, to display the charging icon and refuses to charge anymore as long as it is working.

The story goes like this:

I've been using a magnetic charger on my Xperia Z3 Compact for quite a long time. Yesterday my magnetic charger died...
So I decided to use the micro USB - but no... The phone absolutely did not react to it as there is nothing connected at all.

The last time I used a micro USB to charge the phone was like two weeks ago (by a friend's powerbank) and it was working fine, but not today. Eventually the phone drained its battery and died.

Then it started charging - the LED turned red... and surprise - when the charge reached 1% and the phone booted up to display the charging battery icon it refused to charge anymore, died again and again started charging. Reached 1%... and the same again.
Eventually I managed to repair the magnetic charger, charged the phone and it is working fine, except it still does not accept charging through the micro USB port.

Any ideas how to deal with this?

Hi @Blago84, I'm sorry to hear about that.

Are you charging your phone using a USB port on a computer or are you charging it using a wall socket? If you are using a USB port could you please try and charge it using a wall socket to see if you are able to charge the phone to more than 1%.

Are you using the DK48 charging dock to charge your phone? If yes, are you using the same cable that you connect to the DK48 when you try and charge your phone when you aren't using the charging dock?

If that is the case it sounds like it's related to hardware rather than software.

There is however a few things you could try before sending the device in to a authorized service centre.

First of, try rebooting your phone in safe mode and see if you are able to charge the phone using the micro USB port.

Thank you very much about the fast response - yes I use the DK48 and yes I use the same cable. Tried with different cable and different magnetic chargers as well (have one spare magnetic charger, that I carry in my pocket) - both magnetic chargers work, the micro USB does not, no matter which cable I use.

Yet to me the problem seems to be software related, as the phone does charge through the micro USB when it is plain dead. Once it boots it stops charging over the micro USB and accepts only the DK48. The safe mode boot does not help - situation remains the same.

Despite that the micro USB works for data transfer.

Thanks for getting back to me!

I would recommend that you try and perform a software repair using Xperia Companion. All the data that you have stored on the internal storage will be deleted so I'd recommend that you make a backup using Xperia Companion before performing the software repair.

When the software repair is complete, try to charge the phone using the Micro USB port before you restore any backup to the phone.

If you still can't charge the phone using Micro USB I'd getting in contact with your Local support and they will be able to assist you with getting the phone sent in to a authorized service centre.
