LTE Notification Icon Not Appearing C6903

Hi Guys,

I have been using my Xperia Z1 for some time now and I noticed that the LTE icon in the notification area does not appear, it always says 4G even when I am in  a location with full LTE. I got the factory unlocked Xperia Z1 C6903 version and it does support the network I am on (Rogers Canada). Instead of LTE I get 4G. I tried a Samsung S4 in the same location and it shows the LTE icon. I don't even see the LTE option in the "Settings>More>Mobile Networks>Network Mode" selection list, all I see there is 4G (preferred)/WCDMA/GSM. Even in the "Settings>Personalization>Quick Settings" there is not LTE option in the list.

I checked my settings for the APN and I have the APN for the Rogers LTE network. When I read about other people having this problem, they updated to firmware .534 and they said it appears again but mine is already in .534 and I still do not see it and some people all said that they had this problem with network locked phones but my phone is a factory unlocked version.

On my *#*#services*#*# menu I checked if my Z1 supports the bands and it does support LTE.

guys your help will be much appreciated Slightly_smiling_Face

4G = LTE

do some speed test, if it gets faster than 24Mbps then you actually use the LTE. 24Mb is the limit of 3G network.

but this is odd anyway, it should be called LTE. Try flashing generic firmware, I doubt you have a generic one if it says 4G.

Thank you for the reply dude Slightly_smiling_Face

I don't think 4G is LTE and I did tests and I am getting speeds of about 52Mbps I think its something with the firmware not displaying the LTE icon and detecting it as 4G but its weird considering I got the factory unlocked version I should be getting the generic software update and I do believe the c6903 is the LTE version. Dunno why its affecting a few users though , maybe the new update might fix it but the update is not available yet for me!

What I meant is 3G ends on 24Mb boundary, everything above it is 4G which technically is the LTE. It's not about the naming really, but the bands/frequencies.

LTE is the 4G network, so if your phone gets to the 50Mb+ it works perfectly fine, you are in range and you use all goodness of the LTE.

What is bugging me is why it is called 4G in your phone, because you say it is not branded/locked/whatever. I have my one bought the same way - not from a carrier, straight from Sony and it has all things labeled as LTE.

Don't get me wrong, LTE is still technically the very same as 4G, but you certainly don't have the generic firmware. Perhaps it is the Journalist & Commercial one, I didn't see it but it is somehow generic too, maybe this shows the difference.

You really could help here as you have this kinda unique rom - you could back it up with SUS and make a TFT firmware file (so we can get a closer look into it), you will have your way back to it, and flash the *true* generic and see if it calls your bands the LTE not 4G.

I'm very curious how did you get this one from the official distribution in the first place.. especially if you already have the 534 firmware! O_O

Bottom line, the problem is solved (never was there really) but you kinda "discovered" another version of "generic" firmware... interesting..

Tap on the Phone icon - write *#*#7378423#*#* - Tap Service settings - Tap on Network Mode - Tap on LTE_ONLY - Wait for a moment - then LTE should appear - if it does then tap on Network Mode again - And Tap LTE_GSM_WCDMA (So you can acces all connections)

Have worked on my devices: Xperia Z, Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z3
