Issue with bottom speaker after 32.2.A.5.11

I own two Xperia Z3+ phones. After I updated to the latest patch last week I am facing issues with the bottom speaker of both my phones. The volume of both the speaker is very low such that I can hardly hear the phone ringing. Even while playing music the volume is less than half of the top speaker. On one of the phones the sound is not only very low but also constantly hisses while ringing, playing music, opening or closing screen. I did a reset on the phone which hisses but to no avail. 

My son also had a Z3+ but on an earlier firmware but that phone doesn't have any such issues.

it seems the is issue is with the new firmware itself. What can I do to address this?

Add you try to perform software repair using xperia companion?

I had tried doing that before this update but it never gets completed - once it asks me to disconnect the phone and then reconnect it while being off and pressing the volume down key, after that it doesnt do anything and the process stops.
