My wife decided that she loved my new Sony Xperia Z2 so much that she decided to ditch her 32GB iPhone 4S. Now she and I are now beginning to regret it. During the data transfer using the Sony PC Companion, the Z2 did not have enough internal storage to fully transfer her data. I bought 2, G.Skill 32GB Class 10 micro SD cards. One for her phone and one for mine. When I started the transfer of her data onto her new Z2 it took over night to complete. We keep getting the warning that the internal storage is almost full and to transfer some data. We have already transferred her music, pictures and video and it's still not enough. She can no longer receive texts because there isn't enough storage capacity. We both use Textra as the default texting app has some major issues. How do we get this "Smart Phone" working smartly? From what we have read so far on the forums, the only use for the external SD card is for pictures, music and video? Is this correct? If so, why did Sony put so little storage on a phone with a 20 something megapixel camera WITHOUT an option to use extra storage for apps and texting?
Thanks in advance for any and all help
Jerry
How large are the files you are trying to move to internal storage? The SD card is for media files, you are right.
Moving from iOS to Andriod needs getting used to. Apple prefer to give a huge storage because you keep everything inside your internal storage, and that's why it can reach 128 GB in iPhone. This is because Apple do not support media sharing, so NO SD card slot.
Google has different ideas. Today most Andriod phones comes with only 16GB internal storage with an extended SD card slot for media. All media will be stored in the extended SD card so in furture you need not transfer them again. Simply dismount your SD card and use it in your next Andriod phone.
My guess is that you are using the phone to do the transfer instead of a PC/Mac, that's why it took whole night. Phone has smaller processors than PC/Mac. It's advisible to transfer your media using your PC/Mac directly into your SD card instead of from phone to phone.
As mentioned, most Andriod phones comes with a standard 16GB storage for apps since majority of the media data is now stored in your SD card. Sony did not develope the OS for the phone. It just modify the OS with it's own applications. The decision to store media only in SD card is an Andriod feature, especially in Kitkat 4.4. I would suggest you redo the storage properly by moving your media to the card first and reseting the phone. Your can choose the apps you need from Google Play that's used fro Andriod only phone.
Hopes this helps.
The file transfer was through Sony's PC Companion Software done through the PC. When it does the file transfer it put EVERYTHING on the internal storage. Nothing went on the SD card. How do I get the data (text messages, apps, media etc) to go only on the SD card?
If Sony knew the limitations of storage it should have provided more internal storage on the Z2 and not relied on using external for ONLY MEDIA
