I listen to music or audiobooks pretty much all day every day on my phone and usually I have no problems with battery. I can listen to Play Music or Audible all day and come home with usually over a 50% charge. Until today.
Noticed a Maintenance Update last night (which reminded me to turn off auto updates but not in time to prevent this one) and didn't think much of it. Was listening to Audible at work with only a few phone calls and minimal screen usage, when after only about 10 hrs off the charger it died. (ate the last 15% in about half an hour). Checked my batter usage and everything was under 10% except for audible which was at 29%. Never seen a single app or service that high before.
So I'm kind of wondering what this maintenance update was about. Was it a storage thing? Since the app is on internal storage and the audio files are saved on the SD card? Any way to fix this or roll back the update?
Android Version 6.0.1
Build number 23.5.A.1.291
Hi @TattKttn,
Welcome to the community.
I'm sorry you're having battery issues. Can you please confirm if, after the firmware update, you updated all your apps?
Audible showing up at 29% is strange, it makes me wonder if it is not optimised for the latest firmware on your phone.
All apps are up to date ( I do auto update those). And yeah I thought it was weird too. Usually it's the Screen or Android System eating the battery but those were at 7% and 6% respectively. I did some googling and found a reference to the update being com.sonymobile.storagechecker, that's why I was wondering if there was maybe a problem with how it communicated with the sd card and that's what was eating the battery.
It's entirely possible as Marshmallow does change the way SD storage is accessed and used. Are your Audiobooks/Music stored on the SD card?
The audiobooks and downloaded music are, yes. But I've had Marshmallow for a while now with no issues. It's just since the Maintenance Update last night. I'll have to keep an eye on it tomorrow, see if the Music app has the same problems. Test to see if it's storage specific or app specific.
Back up your content from your SD card and then re-format it just to be sure. It is also worth testing it in safe mode. You will only really be able to test it using music as the Audible app will not be available while it's in safe mode.
Based on what you have advised me so far, it does appear that the Audible app is the troublemaker here, so I also recommend you notify the developers of the issue as it may be something they can resolve on their end.
Hi @Choot100,
Welcome to the community.
It's not possible to downgrade to a previous version via official means. Can you please check under Settings > Battery > Show Battery Usage. What are the top items in here?
Definitely an issue. My phone gets so hot sometimes it feels like its going to blow up.
But the battery drain issue is definitely caused by the latest update. Seriously, stop fluffing around with asking users to reset their phones etc. Look at the software. I've had this issue the entire week and have to carry 2 power banks to keep it running just for the 10hrs I need. I DO NOTHING SPECTACULAR with my phone. It use to be fantastic still with 35-50% at 8pm from 7am off charge. Now its dead by 3PM if I dont charge it during the day. Attached the battery graph - same exact slope everyday for the last week.
When I charge using original charger and cable it goes 10% to 9% to 10% to 11% to 10% to 11% to 12% to 11%.
Absolutely disgraceful Sony - looking at getting a new phone now. This Z3 has had its time but obviously, attention is on the new Z phones.
Hahaha - charging now. Its going from 9 to 10 to 9 to 8 to 7 to 8...... its actually going backwards!
