AVG Protection Pro

So I realized on the XZ, AVG is part of the bloatware. I go back and forth disabling it and then enabling it because I want to use the call blocking feature (that unfortunately isn't a default feature in the XZ). Anyone know if the AVG app uses a lot of battery power? If so, I'd rather just disable it.

Hi @ikramkhasim,

You can check how much power an app is using on your phone under Settings > Battery > Show Battery Usage.

You want to see Screen as the highest, as it is the biggest component of your phone.

Hi CameronT

AVG is not listed on the Show Battery Usage screen.

Also, I've noticed now that "Android OS" is highest, with "Screen" at second. Why is that?

Imo that's because ur phone got system updates recently, that may include upgrading bloatware apps!

If you just want a call blocker,  you can download lighter ones from Google play Store.  Avg app isnt worth it just clear data and disable it.

Thanks, I think I will. As for call blockers, any app that you would recommend that won't drain battery or have unnecessary ads?

here's a list,http://www.androidheadlines.com/2014/12/featured-top-10-best-call-blocker-apps-android.html

you might want to read the reviews first before you install the app.

also, some people on Android Nougat beta program are reporting that there is a built in call blocker, so we might see it once the device is updated to Android 7.0 (fingers cross)

Thanks. I think I read this before and tried some and decided they were kinda crappy. Hopefully Android N will give us the call blocker!

@ikramkhasim,

I forgot to mention, there is a form of call blocker in Xperia devices.

First, you need to add the number as a contact to your phone. When you edit the contact, press the 3 dots on the top right and tick the box "All calls to voice mail". It will automatically reject any call from that number.

Oh yes I've heard of that but didn't want to save any spam numbers. But worth a try until something better comes along. Thanks.
