Hi! Due to a poor network coverage in my place I want to use wifi calling. T-Mobile says: all the services are up and running however after puting *#*#4636#*#* the sliders for VoLTE and VoWiFi are not active. Could it be that the firmware of my XA1 G3112 does not support these features? Any idea how to fix it?
Hi @rands70, let me see if I can help out here.
Depending on operator, your phone must sometimes be operator-branded and/or use operator-customised system software to be able to use VoLTE. Your subscription (incl. SIM card) must support VoLTE for the device model you're using. To inquire if your device, software, subscription and SIM card support VoLTE, contact your mobile network operator.
To enable VoLTE in your XA1, find and tap Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile network > Tap the switch beside Enable VoLTE to activate VoLTE. If Enable VoLTE isn't available, contact your network operator.
Wifi calling is basically the same thing, the XA1 does have support for VoWiFi, there is however some conditions that must be fulfilled in order for it to work. Your service provider and subscription (incl. SIM card) must support Wi-Fi Calling for the device model you're using and depending on which service provider you have, your phone must sometimes be operator-branded and/or use operator-customised system software. To enable VoWiFi, follow the steps below.
I hope this helped! Let me know if you have any further questions!
The phone has been purchased from the local Sony distributor. How can I get "operator-customised system software" ? As I wrote before my subscription at T-Mobile enable VoLTE and thus VoWiFi. My operator told me that he cannot help more and I have to turn to Sony support.
Hi again @rands70 and thank you for the quick reply!
I am sorry if my previous reply was a bit unclear. The the lack of WiFi calling is very unlikely due to usage of the wrong software as operator settings is installed automatically. If Wi-Fi Calling isn't available in the settings of the phone app, contact your network operator to see if the SIM card you are using supports VoWiFi/VoLTE and to verify that XA1 is in the list of supported models for VoWiFi/VoLTE.
I hope that cleared things up!
Dear Martin,
of course I've contacted T-Mobile first! My SIM card was checked and is OK. It's not like they do not support certain phones - they just support all phones having VoLTE and VoWifi functionality.
I'm getting to be desperate. Shall get rid of my XA1?
May I ask someone to help? I wondered that Martin did not ask for an IMEI or at least a software version of my phone to check out whether is capable to work with VoLTE and VoWifi.
Hi again @rands70, sorry for the late response.
Just to be clear, were the phone bought from the service provider T-Mobile or has the phone been purchased at another location? To inquire if your device, software, subscription and SIM card support VoLTE/VoWiFi, it is always best to contact your mobile network operator, but if you want me to check your IMEI or SW version, send me a PM with the information and I will check it out!
Hi Again. Just a short review. In PM I sent the details about my phone. Martin found out that the SW is a generic version for Czech market. I repeatedly contacted also my operator T-Mobile. He says that all the network settings enable VoLTE and VoWifi on my phone. Then Martin adviced to call to Sony local support. I've done it. The guy who picked up the phone was completely unexperienced and hardly able to understand what I'm talking about. In adition there were two emails sent to me advicing to contact my operator in order to get a special SW for my phone. So the circle is closed without any move forward.
Is here anyone from Sony support with ability to escalate this topic to people who really understand where might be an issue? Isn't it possible that Xperia XA1 does not support VoLTE and Vo Wifi at all and Sony reps just does not want to confess it due to unknown reasons?
