The phone doesn't recognize the SIM card

Hello,

Could someone, perhaps a Sony rep, guide me toward making my phone recognize the SIM card that's inserted?

I know the card isn't faulty, since it is new and works fine in my Samsung tablet. However, ever since I got my X Compact last week, I can only get a "No SIM card - Emergency calls only" message. All other functions seem to be working fine - except that it is not a telephone!

Its build number is 34.1.A.1.198.

Thank you,

David

Thank you so much, David, for taking the time to help others.  I was getting ready to struggle against the ebay seller for sending us a defective phone until I found your info here  (after two calls to PureTalk and tons of time on the internet).  I accessed the secret menu, changed to WCDMA (it was on GSM only at first), toggled the DNS check, and bingo.  It worked.  I didn't have to do any rebooting.

Hi @Danie01

You have a Z3 phone, isn't it?

Let''s start from scratch.

Does it happen in safe mode too?

Did you try to start the phone without SIM, then reboot, insert SIM and check?

Did you try reset all network data? Goto settings, magnifying glass, type reset and find reset network settings.

Tell us what happens. Maybe we can get you out of this.

Hello David,

I have the same problem and I can't manage to turn my service on WCDMA predered : it sets back Lite instantly. Should I change any other setting to make it work?

Also I don't find where to toggle DNS, even when I turn my phone to English (I speak French). I don't know if it is necessary...?

Thank you!

I too have had this problem. I tried everything from online guides etc. Eventually sent it to Sony repairer to no avail. Waiting to get it back un-repaired. They say it's a motherboard problem, can that be possible? Last year had same problem so put a piece of paper under the sim card to get better contact. Worked until 2 weeks ago. Pretty sure it did an update about 2 weeks ago too!?? Not sure if I'll get another xperia!

Guys! I just found the issue truely!  It seems that some phones (generally imported) are set to limited type of network aleigned with the original country. The types are:

gsm; wcdma (2G, 3G, 4G, ...)

So, if your phone does not recognize a network, you should enable it!

Simply:

1) Go to settings

2) find mobile network somewhere (e.g., for XPERIA Z5 Perimum, Setting -> More -> Mobile Network)

3) Go to prefered network type

4) Pick all!

Enjoy! Slightly_smiling_Face
