Sony WH-1000 MX3 Build Quality

Hopefully this is the right forum.

Over the last 12 months, I have bought 2 Sony WH-1000 MX3s, and both had the same problem (I returned 1 to get a refund).  The problem being the headband, more specifically the band that connects the speakers (I can't think of a better word), to the headband.  They keep snapping off.  The speakers themselves are fine, but the plastic that goes up and down keeps breaking off.  Usually, it's the right side that breaks first, then, the left, and now on the right side, it's broken even more with the speaker now dangling by the cable.

I've included a link to photos of the headphone.  Am I just using the headphones wrong?  I can't believe that both have broken in the same place, in a similar time.

Exactly the same thing has happened to me, I don’t want to return them and have the same thing happening. I would rather just have a straight refund and get the newer model (depending on the issue being resolved).

It looks like the return process is a pain as well.

Hi guys, why don't you send the headphones to the service centre if they're within the warranty for inspection? You can find the details here: https://services.sony.co.uk/supportmvc/en/Repair/BookRepairForm?search-sparrow=wh-1000XM3.

To be honest I’m not very happy with this product. In the warranty it says that it isn’t covered by physical damage. Clearly there is a design flaw with these headphones.

You haven’t really answered this guy’s problem either. Why would I want a replacement product with the exact same problem.

*Update/warning* Okay so I’ve sent my headphones to Sony as advised and they have refused to accept that this is damage as part of the warranty. I’ve found numerous forums where people have dad this problem.

To add insult to injury the refusal fee is £30 plus £10 carriage!

I am absolutely disgusted with Sony and will never be buying any products from them again.

Just save yourself time and money and don’t buy these headphones guys.

Damn this sucks big time!!

For my headphones i always went for Sennheiser (all components are replaceable, constantly! + very competitive sound!!)

@N.D.M-9100 I agree with you, there's a reason the phrase "that signature Sennheiser sound" makes sense! (I wonder if you tried the 560S's? I'm extremely curious about them).

@Joe_Dohn Tested those and they really sound good for that price range i must say!

Atm i am rocking the Momentum 3's (highly recommended!) & for dj-stuff the legendary hd125's

@N.D.M-9100 Would you say that they're true flats (or close as can be)? I'm sort of trying to find my sweetspot in terms of audio signature and there's really no better place to start other than a pair of good Senn's or a flat set of cans (which probably explains why I'm so curious about those).

I'm currently waiting on the delivery of the Lypertek Tevi's (it's been described to me as "cheaper Momentum TW's" and at the time funds were limited so went for them (wish me luck 😅).
