Sony MDR 1000X Bracket broken

Hello!

I recently purchased a pair of these great headphones and although I have been thoroughly impressed, I have to write about some disappointment I have experienced. I have had these headphones for about 3 months and a week about the bracket on the hinge of the headphones started to break.

Unphased, I still continued to wear them until today where they broke off completely.

Now I have seen many issues online where there is a design flaw in the headphones where too much pressure can cause the bracket to break so I am extremely unimpressed.

My question is what can we do about this. Prior to purchasing them I read that they are virtually indestructible and honestly an issue like this isn't something I'd expect from a £300+ pair of headphones. It's just so sad because the sound quality of them are second to none.

Thank you.

Just in case if you wonder - the "free" repair turns out to be a hoax with two outcomes - either you pay over GBP30 for refusal or around GBP 100, see the attachment.

I have exactly the same issue, it started to crack after 1 year of usage( This is definitely materials/design issue. Sad that Sony didn't accept and make free repairs for it's loyal customers(

Hi VulpiuS123,

I'd say you should get in touch with the service centre directly as the headphones will be inspected and the proper action taken. If you don't know how to get in touch with them, try getting back to the Sony support team of your country so that they can help.

My headphones were a year and 4 months old when I noticed the crack on one side.  Having looked after them I was very surprised and after a quick internet search discovered that this was in fact a design fault with the materials that were used.  Apparently there is a range in the serial numbers that are affected (sorry I don't remember the site I got this from).

Anyway, I sent the headphones off to Sony and they refused to repair for free as it was outside the one year warrenty - shame on Sony!!

They wanted around £75 to repair!!  So I looked to get the part myself to repair, and that costs around £45 (just for a tiny piece of plastic).  Obviously Sony are making money from the spares as well - double shame Sony!

I asked them to return the headphones and write me a letter stating that they would have repaired the headphones for free if it was within the 1 year warrenty, and they agreed.

I took this letter with proof of purchase back to where I bought the headphones from and quoted the EU legislation of everything having a 2 year warrenty.  After some initial resistance the well known UK electronics retailer agreed to pay out £160 approx.  Although this doesn't cover the price of new headphones it does cover the repair cost so I can't really complain.

I will still probably try to repair the headphones myself, and put the 160 towards a new pair in the future - not Sony

Hello, I have the same problem.  My headphones are less than a year old.  Has sony responded to any of these concerns?  Just wondering, for the price of the headphones their customer service should be better.  At this point I'd find it helpful if they just put out a replacement part number so I can get it 3d printed.

Is there anyone I can contact that will help me get this problem fixed?

Send it back to Sony with proof of purchase and they should repair for free as it's within the year warrenty.

The part description I was sent for the right side is : Sony SLIDER LOWER (R) ASSY (B), SVX

I have this problem too. I bought mine 11 months ago so it is still under warranty.

Reached to Sony Middle East and Africa region and they told me since it is a physical damage, it is not under warranty. Eventhough
I told them of all the complains in other regions regarding this issue, they still said I am the first ever customer who complained to them.  And that even if Sony UK released the serial numbers that are affected, it is not applicable in other regions. It is useless talking to them. I hope someone makes a class action against sonySony.jpg

Hey, I’m having an issue where I attempted to continue wearing my MDR 1000x headphones but now they have broken past the point of being able to use them. I was told they were under warranty but after I sent them in, they told me that the headphones were resold (I bought them on eBay) so they weren’t responsible for the warranty. And they sent back the headphones STILL BROKEN. Oh but wait, they offered me 50 bucks off a set of the new headset, at $300 instead of $350. Wow, thanks. I am so over this entire thing but I am desperate to get these working as I can not afford a new headset. I’m in the US as well, can anyone here help me at all??
