Although lens cleaning did the trick and at least allowed me to read/write certain disks, I still cannot read or write to others, especially RW ones. But a further interesting development has occurred with some of my previously recorded dvd's. I have found out though that when I first power up from cold, previously recorded slideshows autorun and play perfectly ONCE, and that after a minute or two I can run the slideshow again by accessing the drive from start >explore i.e. it won't autorun the second time. But after about 2 or 3 minutes, "please insert disk" message re-appears when I try to run it again from "explore" and no way will it play again until I switch off for an hour and switch on again. - what on earth is going on?
