Hi There
I have the RA304 desktop with the LAN access point for the media receiver.
My brother across the road has a wireless modem. Is it possible to use the access point to get access to this wireless modem?
Thanks
Manner
If he's within 100M you should be able to
How can I do this?
I thought that the access point is only capable of sending out - rather than receiving?
I've just got a USB wireless dongle by Belkin that has let me connect to his computer.
Cheers

It sends/recieves
Go to Start > Connect To > Show Available Networks
Hi Kee-Lo
I cannot see the
" Start > Connect To > Show Available Networks"
I see
Start > Connect To > Show All connections
Is there something in the device manager that I can check to see if my RA304 has the hardware to use the LAN access point to connect to a wireless network?
Thanks
Manner
What do you see there? LAN, 1394 and WLAN?
I see
"1394 Connection
Local Area Connection"
and thats all.
Cheers

Do you not have the access point that came with the machine? This usually connects to the ethernet port.
Dudes, please... You cannot connect an accesspoint to a wireless modem unless that modem can connect to an access point. You can also not find an access point connected to a LAN port in WLAN settings since there is no WLAN on this vaio. An access point is, and the name sais it all, a point of access. It allows OTHER wireless devices to connect to it, it will then act as a link between these WLAN devices and, if connected, a network or network card. So it is your brother that needs to check if he can connect to your access point and not vice-versa. these chances are however very low.... Since you don't have a WLAN card but only the access point you CANNOT connect to the modem.
Most likely or the modem is already an access point, or it can only accept ad-hoc connections directly to a WLAN card. In both cases you cannot connect to it with the materials bundled with the unit. I hope this clears this out a little bit.
So you can use an access point as a booster?
