Hi, today I decided to install an extra 1Gig of Ram to complement the 1Gig sim chip I have been using.
I inserted the 2nd 1Gig chip into the second memory slot on my VGN-SZ1XP and tried to boot the laptop. It would power up and then shutdown after 10 seconds.
I am positive it is not the memory chip. I swapped out the chip and installed another 1 Gig chip, exactly the same specifications as the original 1Gig chip. No luck.
The computer will only boot, if the first memory bay is used, but the minute I put a second memory chip in the 2nd expansion slop, it does not boot.
I have no idea why, and cannot seem to find an answer on the sony site. Hopefully someone will be able to help me with this very strange problem. I dont want to be stuck with only 1Gig if I can upgrade my machine to 2 Gig, especially as I have now brought the extra memory.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Welcome to ClubVaio MaiTai 123,
I did a small research in our website and I did not found any issue related to expand the RAM.
Sony is very specific to use the Memory Type : DDR2-533 SDRAM (PC2-3200)
Can you check if your hardware is Ok ?
Using VAIO Hardware Diagnostics to detect a hardware faults
1. Make sure the VAIO is shut down completely.
2. Start the VAIO and immediately press the F10 button several times.
3. The VAIO Recovery Center will open.
