Hi All:
with regard to a Vaio VGN-AR21M running XP Media Center 2005, The touchpad stopped functioning as of yesterday. This may be in conjunction with cleaning out a self-replicating virus. I see the device (though it was hidden) in Device Manager, and it states device cannot start (code 24). I have tried original driver pack and numerous others to no avail. I shecked the sony control panel as well in the Windows control panel and it does have the touchpad listed and checked as on. Any solutions to this problem?
Best-
Dion
Hi Dion and welcome to Club Vaio.
Code 24 means there is either a hardware problem (the touchpad is kaput) or the drivers are not all installed correctly.
You need to install the Alps Pointing Device Driver. If you have all the original drivers for your model (they are usually in C:\ Drivers) just navigate to C:\Drivers\Pointing and run the installer file ApntEx.exe. This will install Version 5.5.1.19.
If you can't find this file you can download the original drivers from here: -
