SZ4 really weird powering/battery problem!

Hello,

I am in need of any help that you can provide just before i take it up with sony service.
I'll explain as thoroughly as i can.

I have the vaio sz4. Everything fine, some heat issues and noisy fan which led me to replace it (the fan assembly). From that point on I meticulusly cleaned the fan, ducts etc.

The problem is this.

If I have it on power, it SHOWS that it is charging (flashing led, and notification on taskbar) but it is not. It is slowly (or quickly, depending on power plan) draining the battery, until it shuts down. Not the normal windows shutdown when battery is low, the "bing! everything off" kind. So I originaly thought it could be a psu issue. I know my way around electronics. The psu gives out 20 volts even when connected to a 150 ohm load. So it must be fine. no voltage drop when connected to a load.

Now here it starts to get interesting. If I remove the battery and try to use just the psu, it wont power up. at all. The power and battery led will blink just once, and thats it. whenever i press the power button those two leds blink and thats it.

I noticed this behaviour on and off for some time now, but now its gotten worse. previously, if i left it to charge the battery while it was shut down, IT WOULD. So it could actually work untill the battery drained it self, then charge it again while shut down etc.

I am confused.

It aint a psu issue. It charges the battery, and it measures ok

It aint a battery issue. It can be charged to 100%, and if i remove the battery the notebook wont power up so its got nothing to do with it.

It aint a heat/rpm issue. Temperatures are just fine, fan rotation is fine. I have one of those bases that have additional fans.

SO these last two days it wont even charge the battery properly. I left it to charge for 10 hours straight and had battery just for the boot and a quick copy of the desktop.

If it does boot, software wise everything is just fine, indicating a hardware problem somewhere.

any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Alex
