I've got a Vaio notebook VGN-NS20E and have taken some video capture of a game. The playback shows a black screen. I've tried several screen capture packages to no avail. From web searches, I've found that this may be caused by Graphics Hardware Acceleration which needs to be set to None. It doesn't seem to be possible to do this in Vista on this notebook. When the media file is copied to DVD and played on a different PC, it plays back ok. Any help and advice gratefully received.
Hi Veronica3012 and welcome to Club Vaio.
You may have a video codec missing.
Try downloading VLC Player - it is quite safe even though it is free.
VLC Player Download
VLC Player comes with its own full set of codecs and should play any video. If VLC Player works but you still want to be able to use WMP come back and we can probably recommend a codec pack download.
You can try reducing the video hardware acceleration if your graphics driver supports this feature - if the driver does not support it the options will be greyed out: -
1. Click Start in the lower left corner of Windows Vista.
2. Click Control Panel, click Appearance and Personalization, click Personalization, click Display Settings, and then click Advanced Settings.
3. Click the Troubleshoot tab, and then click Change Settings.
Note: Change Settings will be disabled if the graphics card drivers do not support disabling hardware acceleration. Anew driver may have this feature.
4. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider to None.
5. Click OK twice, and then close the window.
