Resolution greater than 1024x768

Hello,

Today I purchased a Sony Vaio vgn-a195ep and I would like to know if it is possible to get greater resolution on the windows desktop than 1024x768. I was used to 1600x1024 resolution on my last laptop. It had a geforce 32MB card.

I thought that maybe because this sony has an ATI 9200 card there may be a possibility on doing this.

Any help would be appreciated.

I took a look at the technical specs on the sony.co.uk website for your vgn-a195ep laptop. Your LCD screen has a maximum resolution of 1024x768 and basically thats it. No higher. Regardless of what graphics card you posess.

But isn't there any way to simulate that mode? Make that resolution virtual?

I want it basically so that I can fit more things in the taskbar since I usually have a lot of open windows at the same time.

Well not really. Theres physically no way of fitting say 1600x1200 pixels into a screen wich only has 1024x768 pixels, it just cant be done.
If you were to force the screen to display at a higher resolution than it supports all it would do is display some of the desktop and force the rest off the edge of the screen, meaning you would have to scroll the desktop to see it. Basically it would try to display as if it were a 1600x1200 but only display the 1024x768 protion leaving the remaining 576x432 floating in mid air so to speak.

Could pay for an upgraded screen to be fitted but that would cost A LOT!!
