Currently running the Vaio laptop VGN-FS215E, all has been well, but the warranty has recently expired
A problem has developed where the laptop is totally "dead", the on / off switch does not respond at all.
The battery is firmly connected and I have checked the a/c cable is live and shows 19.5V on a voltmeter.....so power is getting to the notebook, but no further!
I would be grateful if anyone has any ideas as to the prolem.
Is this a simple line fuse that needs to be replaced or is there a problem with the power switch on this product?
Thanks
Hi swalk58 and welcome to ClubVaio.
Try this for a start: -
Take out battery and remove AC power.
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
Power up with the mains connected only.
I think it is something to do with a static build up.
Hi Blencogo, thanks for the welcome and suggestion for a fix.
I tried your method a few times now, with the battery out and unfortunately the notebook is still lifeless???
cheers.
I am afraid this is not good news! If the notebook fails to respond to the power switch and there are no lights illuminated then it would suggest a hardware problem.
It could be as simple as a defective/unattached cable but may be as serious as a failed motherboard.
If expense is no problem contact Sony Support, otherwise seek out a reliable third party repairer. For starters you could try TechnoMart
Rich, thanks for the head up, i will call tehnomart in the morning,,,are there any other decent 3rd party notebook repairers in the London southeast area??
cheers.
Hi swalk58,
Here is a further link, but I think you will find that the other link I provided is a community of repairers that will lead you to a local source.
Best of luck, let us known how things progress.
I now have the same problem with my laptop. Have you had a resolution to your problem?
