I was wondering if anyone also has problems installing the drivers for the nvidia geforce 8400 GT on their sony vaio? After I installed the release candidate of windows 7 it won't recognize the graphics card anymore. And when I try to install the new driver from the nvidia website it won't install because it has compatability problems. Vaio laptops are mentioned on the nvidia website as being "Not ready" for the right windows 7 driver.
Does anyone have any idea how to correct this problem?
Many thanks,
R. de Winter
Hi R de Winter and welcome.
nVidia forceware drivers will usually not install on any laptop using a mobile GPU or OEM computers including Vaios - the OEM manufacturers customise the installation.INF file so only their approved drivers will install.
You have two options: -
1. Use a Vista driver which will work fine with Windows7. Your existing Vista driver will be OK or you could try this one which will install normally: -

2. Try installing one of the new x32 Win7 drivers. I have had a quick look and the nv_whql.inf of the driver version 186.10 supports [DEV_0426] NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT so it should install OK. I don't think any other version will install on your system.
