New Install of XP

Well,out of shear bordem this afternoon,I decided to Install and repartition my new Vaio with Win XP+SP1+2.It went flawlessly.All Hardware is working as it should.No problems with Drivers.Overall Sys Performance is much improved and definatly Faster.My HD is a full partition now,I deleted the reserve partition as I have the Vaio restore cd's if I wish to go back to the Sony Setup.I have as yet only installed the Adobe Apps and the Audio Software at present.I left out all the other Trail stuff as its not needed.My Sys is an FE11M.So if anyones thinking of giving it a go,my advice is to take your time,make sure you have your Sony rec disks to use the Drivers,and use a real XP disk for a problem free installation.I think I will proberly keep this config now until I can get Vista Oem to replace it.

Nice to hear someone's happy with their VAIO and found a way to do the clean XP install

Yes it is rare that it goes without problems - or perhaps users with less expertise than frannys are tempted to do this by comments like "it definitely runs faster".

The actual Operating System is identical in XP Pro and XP Home and the only performance improvements are probably attributable to the clean install and to loading less software. A similar reinstall of XP Home would probably have the same result.

Please don't attempt this unless you really know what you are doing as you will no longer receive support from Sony at Vaio-Link and most people experience significant problems getting their Vaios to work properly.

Unless you use the enhanced Network and User Management functions in XP Pro, I would save your money. The performance benefits are, in most cases, illusionary.
