Installed usb dvd drive but now Pointing device wont work

I have just installed a usb to ide cable and connected an external dvd drive which works perfectly. Unfortunately, althogh a usb mouse works OK, my pointing device now will not i.e. moves a small distance then stops as if the computer is doing something else - sound like an irq problem but I don't know how to resolve it. Help please

You could try using a mains powered hub, it could be a power issue.

Hi William - I forgot to mention in my previous post that the drive is already powered via a mains adapter so I can't see that being the issue - many thanks for taking the trouble to reply with your thought though
