Improving speed of my pcg-fr395ep

Hey guys

I was wondering the best way to improve the speed of my notebook. I have contemplated formatting the hard disk but I don¿t have the XP disk or any other programs that came already installed. I guess that formatting will loose these programs.
If anyone could suggest an alternative route to improve applications and general speed of my notebook I would be very grateful. I have checked that there are no viruses, I have a clean machine.

Ta very much Dave

Defragmenting is a good start.

Ta

Yeah I defrag regularly and keep everything tidy. The applications just seem to load very slowly.

What powerpannel setting do you run your notebook at?

Performance is the best.

go to Download.com and search for Tuneup utilities 2004. It's an optimisation program. Use it. Be careful with the registry optimiser and create a system restore point before every change you make. They take up lots of space, but when you are satisfied you don't need them they can be deleted via XP's Disk cleanup program.
