hi
right herss the whole story,,, not so long ago my computer got infected y this trojan which infected my firstreboot.exe i quarantined the file then delted it
now i just deleted the whole partition and installed windows xp pro and when i went to install my sound card my norton alerted me and said that it found a virus c:\windows\ system 32\firsaa43.rra trojan horse !!!!!!!!!!!!! and the sound card set up alerted me and said that it couldnt find firstsystem reboot.exe so it was unable to install
why didnt the deletion of the partition (there was only 1) kill the virus or trojan also why didnt it reinstall the firstreboot.exe
please someone help as i havent experienced a extreme error such as this before
kind regards ben
This shouldn't really matter if you have
a) deleted the partition
b) reinstalled XP Pro
c) done a full install of the drivers for the Herculies soundcard
The info about firstboot was on google.
i done exactly all of that
i dont know what to do i am unable to find these viruses that are stated they only happen when i try and install the drivers for my sound card
they are different files each time with different virus names i cant find anything on google about the files that are stated (virus/trojan)
i dont understand this has confused me totally
Same here, I'm stumped
Norton can be a bit of a pain detecting viruses that don't exist. It's a bit technical to explain and not really worth it, but there is an outside chance that a bit of code in the file is triggering Norton, and if you update the virus definitions that would explain why the detection changes. Why there would be no mention of it on google is a mystery though.
Email Hercules and see if they will email you the file, if not try filesharing programs, edonkey has a fairly wide file range.
The only explanation I can possibly think of is that there is an entirely different virus somewhere on your hard drive that's messing up Nortons detection, although that seems quite unlikely.
Try Trend Micros site, they do a free online virus scan which is good, see if it picks anything up.
Frankly I'm equally stumped.
I would avoid P2P - it's a breeding ground for viruses.
tyger the file firstreboot.exe is a hercules file and when i try the installation
you know when it installs and stats the fle it is installing above the loading bar
it says firstreboot.exe at the same time ????????
the pages that kee-lo found on the web stated that the file was a hercules file and was used at system start up
i have no other anti virus installed on my pc i have done the online norton and found nothing ???????
the have done a clean deletion of partition reformated and installed my os so i have hardly any programmes on my pc
norton internet security 2004
java
azureus
and my adsl modem
and that is it
my windows updates are fully up to date
my anti virus is fully up to date
i think i am just going to leave it to the fortissimo peeps as it seems to be a problem with the card if you ask me as i cant find the files that are sposed to be infected via a virus scanner or manually
the card installs a little funny compered to other cards
when i installed it last time the book insructed me to installed the card
windows will install the standard drivers for the fortissimo 3
then run the fortissimo disk install the drivers provided windows will then start the found new hardware wizard
then press the let windows instll reccomended
now that is a little strange if you ask me but it did work.....
Glad you got it to work.
nah i said that is how i did it last time this time i keep geting the stinking virus warning and the missing file warning
Really you should have installed all the essentials before Norton.
Yeah......why don't you just install it before Norton? Maybe you won't see the message again.
