DVD RW PROBLEM...MORE

Hi Chris, my dwd rw on my vgn-a217m is displayed in windows and can eject from windows but neither can it read or write. i have uninstalled it and set cmos to default but still cant get it to work. it has been updated(firmware) to the latest...all to no avail.
someone please help!!

Have you tried cleaning the lens?

The best way to clean a lens is get a wet-lens CD cleaner - its the ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL that you want. Next some cotton wool q-tips (the kind you clean your ears with) is best.

Pop a drop of the alcohol onto a clean q-tip so that its moist - too damp and it will leave bits of loose cotton strands on the lens. Use a light circular motion on the lens and remember never touch the lens. If you do you'll remove the fine laser coatings...

I'm sure you'll be amazed at how much dirt comes off the lens!
