DVD Disc Drive problems

Can anyone help, I have an older VGC Ra104 with two DVD/CD Drives - (1) HL-DT-ST DVD Rom GDR8162B (2) Sony DVD RW DW - D18A - recently both disc drives disapperaed from the system. I have tried uninstalling them through device Manager then restarting the computer, Windows sees the two drives and starts to load them as plug and plays but once completed I then get the following message "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)" and still the two devices do not appear on the My Computer Screen.

I havel also run a system restore point from a time when I knew the drives were both working, again this has not helped.

I have also reinstalled the Drivers from the Original Driver Download Package that I obtained from the Sony Support Page.

I am not computer minded and therefore any help that anyone can give me would be gratefuly received. For your information I am still running Windows XP - Service Pack 3. The only hardware alteration to the computer that I have made is increasing the RAM memory which was done two years ago. No significant alterations were made to the computer in the last few months or since the drives disappeared from the system.

Thanks, Lancer

Have you ever tried removing the drives, it's ABSOLUTELY impossible!

Gave up in the end!
