DOOM3 Problem with new GRT996ZP note book

  DOOM3 Problem with new GRT996ZP note book:smileycry:
Can somebody help me. My laptop has 1GB ram, P4 with HT, 64mb GeForce FX 5600 G/card. etc!
I would of thought that this machine would run Doom3, Far Cry. Doom 3, in it's lowest setting in graphics and resolution it runs but stutters all the time and the graphics stink on screen!
Is there a way to speed things up? I have Defrag etc..
I hope someone can help. Has anyone got the same machine? if so have you run Call Of Duty. It looks as if i will trade in for that if it works!!!
Also shouldn't the viao teams develope a decent game machine, i thought this would do it, it's bloody big and heavy enough (it's a good machine i just wish a new game would play on it)
The Doom3 min specifications are all lower than this laptop's spec?
Come on you tech guy's and gal's get me rocking!

You need an awesome graphics card for Doom 3, no less than 128MB of video RAM.

Yep, I had exactly the same problem, but you dont need "an awesome " graphics card that has 128 mb or more.
I've got a GRT715M, which has the same GeForceFX 5600 with 64mb Video Ram as yours and I've got it running in 1024x768 in High Quality settings, and my P4 doesn't have HT enabled.
Before, like yours, I had it in 640x480, lowest quality settings and turned off shadows and Specularity and it was still jerky, didn't look too good either.
Just goto www.laptopvideo2go.com and download the 61.77 Forceware drivers and the 30.25 INF file and hopefully you should have it running aswell as I do, if not better. I have tried many different drivers for this card but none of them improved performance, but these ones gave it a massive boost.
You could also try going into the graphics driver settings and change the Image settings from Quality to Performance or High Performance.
I havn't had a chance to try Far Cry myself yet with these new drivers, but I hope they provide the same boost in performance as they do in Doom 3.

Hope they help anyway,
Gareth B.

Sounds good Gareth.

Yeah, I can't fault these drivers so far.
Hopefully some other people will have the same luck I did with them, as it's a shame notebooks have the trouble they do with running games, especially new ones.

Yeah thats the problem with notebooks, they're not really geared for gaming, though that is changing rapidly.

Who knows, soon we will have 128MB cards in notebboks and 1GB ones in desktops

hi LLCOOLJ
this really did the trick! i can now play doom3 and farcry with 1024x768 and most settings on medium or high. Much better than before.
The 3Dmark03 went form 2073 to 2218. Doesent look like much but in the games there is a big improvement.
My laptop: Sony Vaio PCG-GRT815E, nvidia 5600go 64M, updated to 1 Giga System Ram and 80 Giga 5400 rpm Harddisk.
Thanks for the info.

CHEERS FOR YOUR ADVICE GARETH It works FINE, infact it is on full power 1600x1200 and on High setting it just hangs in there! I have not even had to by-pass the clocking in the drivers bit, i dare not touch them, i have been told you can knacker the graphics chip easily. Do you know how high to turn these clock rates up if i need to there is two figures? It would be good to do that for Far Cry if needed. Then agian this DOOM3 is so F****** good and clear and MMMMMmmmmmm, it was worth the wait!
So a big thankyou mate.
See you soon
