Hi Guys,
Just bought a Vaio VGN-S1VP laptop. Went to try out some of my DVD's on it last night (all legit region 2 dvd's from HMV etc!) and I can only get a couple of them to 'play' or even be recognised as being DVDs.
Most of them aren't even recognised as having ANY sort of data on them when I load them. The couple of (older) DVDs that DO work 'autoplay' fine and will run on Windows Media 9 fine or the WinDVD5 that is pre-installed.
The drive on this laptop is a Matshita UJ-812 DVD-RW - someone has suggested to me that this might cause problems with dodgy copy DVDs, but surely all my films should work fine ?? Everything is set to Region 2 also, so nothing wrong there!
Can anyone offer a solution ? This is proving very frustrating!!
Could my drive be faulty ?
Many thanks in advance for any advice!:smileycry:

Have a look at Vaio-Link and see if there are any firmware updates for your drive. If that doesn't work get on the phone to Sony support, sounds like a suspect drive to me.
Sounds like a dodgy drive to me too.
OK Thanks guys. My gut feeling is now that the drive probably is faulty, as I've been playing about with my older vaio just to compare and have absolutely no problems there.
Cheers!
