I've a KDL-40S5600 TV that supports Dolby Digital according to the specs. I've wired a PC on HDMI 1, and a 5.1 Home cinema on DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL). I'd want the 5.1 sound on the speakers (AC3 file playing on the computer). Unfortunatelly, the TV says to the PC that only stereo is available, so the 5.1 option doesn't show up on the PC (in sound configuration of the TV), only stereo (Stereo works fine). I've tried playing a bit with the options but no luck until now. Do someone knows anything about it ? There's a few answers on the forum, but none that works with my TV (it generally says to set Settings > Sound > Digital Audio Out to ‘Auto 1’, but my audio output availables are only Stereo, A or B).
Dolby Digital 5.1 is supposed to work through Optical according to the Manual. Have you tried using the TV itself and check whether you can get a 5.1 signal like that?
It's also worth mentioning that Optical cables are fragile, so maybe try using another cable in case you're not getting 5.1 at all, it's unlikely, but worth elimination.
Hope this helps!
