No surround sound on tv Programs

Hi all Hope you can help with this,

I have a KDL-46V3000 connecting to DAV-DZ230 with two leads 1x HDMI 1X Scart I think that the picture only goes through the hdmi and the sound goes through the scart. When I play a DVDs the surround-sound is amazing  but on freeview and freesat the DAV-DZ230 speakers are used but no surround sound on tv programs or films,

Any ideas?

Hi,

most television broadcasts are in 2 channel stereo unless otherwise stated, the scart lead on your system will serve no real perpose here as the hdmi is all you need, but i suspect your DAV-DZ230 will not play dolby digital sound from your tv as it does not have digital optical input.
