Do i need to root so I can flash?

I can't wait anymore, so I'm ready to Flash my phone for ICS
I'm just asking do i need any root/unlocking bootloader for need of flashing? I already did backup.

I have no repair option in PCC or SUS so i can't save stock rom

if neither SUS nor PCC gives you this option there isn't a way to back it up sorry
