Can't Root Xperia PLAY

I have the Xperia Play r800x with android version 2.3.4 build 4.0.2.E.0.57 and have verizon as a carrier. I descripbed in the "Root all Sony Ericsson smartphone 2.3.2 and up" post, I placed my phone in USB Debugging and tried the UnlockRoot software without success. I received a pop stating "Failed to get shell root!". Am I missing something or need a different program to get into my phone to get some of the bloat stuff out. Thanks.

if you unlock your bootloader you will, otherwise you will be able to update IFF (iff = if and only if) sony release a new update on this phone

I'm sorry but I'm a huge noob on the whole root thing.

Using the tool SuperOneClick, will that unlock my bootloader?

And any idea on the space I can free up, by rooting and deleting bloatware?

- the small amount of internal space on the Xperia Play is just laughable.

super one click won't unlock your bootloader, if you want to increase internal storage it's easier to partition your SD card than rooting

You have my attention, how would that work? Since launcher I have been pretty annoyed over the less than 300mb free internal storage.

Did my quota for questions ran up Slightly_smiling_Face

I tried to google it, but to me it looks like I have to root my phone to use the SD-card as internal storage. Or is that incorrect?

Sorry for the late reply, haven't been to the site for a while.

But thank you very much for the answer. Sadly it sound semi difficult, so might just live with the horrible device for a little longer and hope something better will come alonng (hard to make anything worse in the original price range or even the current price range).

Unless you've updated to 2.3.4 for the verizon play or build .285 for the ATT play as those versions will not work with any of the one click root solutions.  you should be able to root on previous builds then OTA update to the latest versions and keep the root status.  Or if you unlock the bootloader you can always flash a pre-rooted kernel/rom.
