Why no Sony recorders?

Why do Sony not sell a TV recorder any more?  Panasonic have a good range as do other manufacturers, but nothing from Sony....

Hi @ccarmock

It possibly has something to do with being able to record

straight to an HDD attached to  a Bravia.

Is it able to record a different channel to the one currently being watched?

Great question @ccarmock

I am afraid Sony in the West have gone down the route of "no stand alone recorders available". If you lived in Japan you could quite easily order a Blu-ray Recorder with a seperate hard drive with twin tuners etc.etc.

I do not understand this and I often have a gripe about it !

I have gone Panasonic for my recording needs which gives all the flexibility that you require from a quality stand alone unit. IMO I think attaching a hard drive to a USB port and controlling it via the TV remote is a poor substitute.

Regards

Great shame they don't make them available here.  They used to have good devices available here at one time, though I think many were re-badged Pioneer machines.

I too have been lookign at Panasonic instead of Sony.  In fact I am wondering if I should move away from Sony completely in favour of Panasonic.
