Watching a DVD while recording to hard drive

I have RDR-HXD890. I can't watch a DVD while recording to the hard drive. Is this right?

according to the pdf manual on page 80, you can

With standard DVD it is possible, with some divx file instead, sometimes it is not true. If I remember well there should be some limitation on the standard used in the movie being played (the player cannot manage together PAL and NTSC signals)
