sony svr-hdt500 freeview+hd recorder - aspect ratio

hi. I use this with my sony HD TV. older programs broadcast are automatically resized to fit with the TV but using the recorder they are not, they still appear in the original/smaller format. I have set the HD recorder to the 16:9 ratio and the 'full' setting, but it is not resized automatically. Does anyone else have this problem with this configuration? I know that I can change it using the TVs remote, but surely this should be done automatically by the recorder itself. Thank. Derek.

Hi Derek,

deffo not a firmware issue, im not sure but i think the recorder will only record older shows in their native size, if you watch on tv for instance The Darling Buds Of May, the credits at the beginning are 4;3 then the tv stretches it to fit 16;9 when the show starts this is done with the tv's settings to fit the screen, i dont believe the recorder can do this and only records it in its sent broadcast 4;3 size.

Thanks, I think that you are correct, and only applies to older programs. Will have to live with this I think. Derek.
