I have a BDV-E370 Blu-Ray home theatre system linked to a KDL-EX40 403 TV and DVD's currently play at 1080/50p i cannot seem to get them to play at 1080/24p. The home theatre is set on auto for 1080/24p playback and is connected to the TV by HDMI cable. Do i need a specific type of HDMI cable, the two devices are 'talking' to each other, i.e. i can control both with TV remote etc, any ideas? Is it worth persuing 24p playback, does it make a difference?
Hi
1080/24p is definitely worth having as it replicates the exact picture frames the movie was made in and then refreshes x 4; and therefore delivers a much richer and smoother picture.
However I beleive, [but may be wrong as I now only now ever watch Blu Ray discs], this output is only available on Blu Ray discs so one can NOT make DVD's output this format. I assume you did mean DVD's as stated above.
P.S. some players need to force /24p to overcome 'compatibility issues in the HDMI handshaking process [EDID]' - basically they won't work on 'AUTO' but you need to set 1080p and /24p and x.v. Colour [deep colour] manually to 'ON' then they work fine delivering /24p @ 1920 x 1080 with 'deep colour'. This is the best picture quality generally commercially available for now...............
Just a thought I have come across a few Blu Rays that appear not to support /24p - not sure why, but thought I'd warn you. As when it first happened I thought my nearly new £1300 Blu Ray player had malfunctioned!
