Connect Sony Cinema System, AV receiver and TV

Hi - I recently bought a Sony BDV-E4100 cinema system and STRDN1080 AV receiver which I would like to use with my TV (KDE65XE7002). I’m unsure what the optimal connections are but have the speakers connected to the cinema system and would also like to use the speakers when watching TV (not just for watching DVDs). I have the DVD and my Sky box connected to the AC receiver but the surround system is only in use when I play a DVD - I cannot get the sound from Sky TV to go through the speakers. The only connection to the TV is an HDMI ARC slot. Do I need an optical audio cable from the DVD player to the TV to make this work or is it not possible to have the TV sound go through the home cinema speakers? What are the optimal connections between the TV, cinema system and AV receiver?

Hi @LolkedeHaan

A few more facts, what speakers have you connected to your STR-DN1080?

It is not clear why you would have both a Cinema System as well as a AV Receiver? I would return the STR-DN1080 as you don’t need it unless I am missing something.

it looks like your BDV-E4100 should be connected to your TV (ARC) HDMI. The Sky box (and everything else) should be connected direct to your TV. That way everything including Sky and Digital TV plays audio through the HDMI (ARC) to you BDV-E4100. Optical cable not required.

Note HDMI Control needs to be turned on to output audio through your HDMI (ARC) to the BDV-E4100.
